Banjar Handicraft Exhibition - 28 Jan 2026

South Kalimantan's Creative Heritage Takes to the World Stage

On January 28, 2026, the outdoor grounds of Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) in Jakarta became a vibrant showcase of creativity and cultural heritage during the “Banjar Handicraft Exhibition – Banjar Goes Global.” The event welcomed approximately 500 visitors, exhibitors, collectors, cultural enthusiasts, and international guests.

The exhibition featured beautifully decorated booths adorned with colorful Sasirangan fabrics. All exhibitors proudly wore traditional Sasirangan batik attire, creating an authentic Banjar atmosphere in the heart of Indonesia's capital city.

Dozens of artisans and creative entrepreneurs from South Kalimantan presented their finest works, including premium Sasirangan textiles, woven rattan bags, traditional hats, wooden carvings, ethnic accessories, beadwork, purun handicrafts, gemstones, and decorative souvenirs inspired by Banjar culture.

One of the exhibition's most popular attractions was the Sasirangan gallery, where visitors observed live demonstrations of traditional fabric-making techniques. Guests had the opportunity to learn about the cultural significance of the patterns and purchase authentic handmade products.

Additional displays included traditional river-life paintings, miniature Banjar houses, handcrafted boats, decorative woodwork, and contemporary designs inspired by Banjar heritage. The exhibition highlighted how traditional craftsmanship can successfully adapt to modern markets while preserving cultural authenticity.

The event was attended by representatives from government agencies, creative economy organizations, trade associations, universities, cultural communities, export-import businesses, art collectors, media organizations, and diplomatic missions interested in Indonesian culture and creative industries.

Visitors also participated in interactive workshops on Sasirangan production, rattan weaving, purun handicrafts, and creative entrepreneurship. Business networking sessions connected local artisans with potential domestic and international buyers.

Beyond showcasing products, the exhibition promoted cultural preservation and economic empowerment. It demonstrated how traditional craftsmanship can create sustainable opportunities while strengthening cultural identity.

Under the theme “Banjar Goes Global,” the exhibition successfully introduced Banjar creativity to a broader audience and emphasized its growing role in the international creative economy.
